What’s the deal with this anti-AI thing?
I wanted to provide a bit more context on why I’ve been talking about AI so much recently.
As I have said many times I’m not anti-AI. I think it’s incredible what the right tools can do, and I’ve always been a fan of innovative technology.
But there’s something about the wide spread adoption and enthusiasm for artificial intelligence that concerns me:
Now we are still in early days for AI, especially Gen-AI. And it’s entirely possible that I’m on the wrong side of history here.
Traditionally there’s always been a lot of pushback on new tech - especially from the established powers that be:
So maybe all my worries are like Hawthorne and the oven.
But how many phone numbers do you have memorised these days?
And that leaves me in a very odd place.
A place where I’m stuck between my fascination with the new technology and the worry that this might be another smartphone - a brilliant piece of tech that I will admit that I am deeply addicted to.
The dangerous impact of smartphone’s on children has been so well documented that there is now a massive pushback on using them at all. I’ve signed up to the Smartphone Free Childhood pledge.
And if that’s the case, maybe rather than rushing headlong into outsourcing our brains to the latest AI bot, we should tred a little more carefully.
We’ll be talking about this in our next webinar on 16th October 2025 - register below for your free place.
